Sulphur Ranger District Campgrounds

There are many campgrounds to choose from in the Winter Park, Fraser, Granby, and Grand Lake area (otherwise known as the Sulphur Ranger District). From primitive campgrounds with limited services to full-service campgrounds with showers and boat ramps, you'll find the perfect spot for your next Grand County camping trip. 

Robbers Roost Campground

ELEVATION: 9,826’ | CAMPSITES: 11

Robbers Roost is located 5 miles south of Winter Park on the east side of Highway 40. Robbers Roost is quiet and very private with lots of wildlife. There are 11 campsites on a first-come, first-serve basis with a limit of two vehicles per site. Potable water is not available. The maximum spur length is 25 feet. Please check in with the campground host located at Idlewild Campground.

Idlewild Campground

ELEVATION: 9,000’ | CAMPSITES: 24

Idlewild, one of the most popular campgrounds in Grand County, is situated on the Fraser River just south of Winter Park on the Fraser River Trail. There are 24 campsites on a first-come, first-serve basis with a limit of two vehicles per site. Idlewild has pit toilets, fire grates, picnic tables and drinking water available. From the campground, it's a short walk or bike ride into the town of Winter Park or to Winter Park Resort. The maximum spur length is 32 feet. Please check in with the camp host to pay the fee and receive a site assignment.

St. Louis Creek Campground

ELEVATION: 8,900’ | CAMPSITES: 16

St. Louis Creek Campground is located 4 miles southwest of Fraser off of County Rd. 73 in the Experimental Forest. There are 16 campsites on a first-come, first-serve basis with a limit of two vehicles per site. St. Louis Creek offers easy access to biking and hiking trails. The campground is less than 2 miles from the rodeo grounds. Vault toilets, fire grates, picnic tables and drinking water are available. The maximum spur length is 32 feet. Please check in with the camp host to pay the fee and receive a site assignment.

Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA) Campgrounds

Reservations can be made for the campsites in the ANRA as late as five days in advance or as early as eight months in advance. These campsites are extremely popular for holiday weekends, as they sit on Lake Granby. The maximum length of stay for these sites is seven nights. Sunset Point Campground

ELEVATION: 8,300' | CAMPSITES: 25

Sunset Point Campground is located off Highway 34 on Lake Granby. Sunset Point has 25 non-electric first-come, first-serve campgrounds with picnic tables, fire grates, vault toilets, drinkable water and a boat ramp available,  as well as firewood (for a fee). Maximum spur length is 45 feet.

Arapaho Bay Campground

ELEVATION: 8,300' | CAMPSITES: 84

Arapaho Bay Campground includes Big Rock, Moraine and Roaring Fork Loops. Located 9 miles east of Highway 34 on CR 6, this campground consists of 84 non-electric campsites along Lake Granby. Toilets, trash dumpsters and drinking water are available. There is a public boat ramp and the maximum spur length 42 feet. Reservations available.  Sites 1-7 are open during the winter. No fees; no amenities. Must be self-contained. Reserve Now.

Green Ridge Campground

Green Ridge Campground is located alongside Shadow Mountain Lake and has 78 non-electric campsites. Maximum spur length is 45 feet. Public boat ramp and dump station are available. Reservations available. Reserve Now.

Stillwater Campground

ELEVATION: 8,300' | CAMPSITES: 129

Stillwater Campground is located on Lake Granby, in Granby, off of Highway 34. There are 129 electric and non-electric sites. Stillwater Campground has a public boat ramp, showers, electrical/water hookups and there is a dump station available. Maximum spur length is 45 feet. The first 11 sites outside the campground gate remain open year round as weather permits. Reserve Now.

Highway 125 and Williams Fork Area

Highway 125 and Williams Fork Are also have many campgrounds, including Denver Creek, Horseshoe, South Fork and Sugarloaf campgrounds. All are first-come, first-serve.

Dispersed Camping

You may camp within 300 feet of most Forest Service roads as long as you are on National Forest System lands. Under Colorado law, it is your responsibility to know if you are on private land. Choose your campsite based on impact; if you can tell that a site has been used before, camp there instead of creating a new site. Be sure to obtain current information on fire restrictions in the area and use existing fire rings. Make sure that after the fire, the area is cold to the touch before you leave! And please leave your campsite cleaner than you found it! Review Leave No Trace principles.
