The Cirque Territory at Winter Park
The Home of Steeps, Cliffs and Stomach Drops
One of the beautiful things about Winter Park Resort is the trails and terrain awaiting adventure seekers of every age and ability. For backcountry lovers, The Cirque Territory is what you’re looking for.
Encompassing 399 acres of Winter Park Resort’s most extreme, double-black diamond terrain, “The Cirque” offers the excitement of un-groomed, backcountry skiing and riding within a patrolled area. With 2,260ft vertical drop this incredible terrain is deemed 75% most difficult and 25% expert only so you definitely want some backcountry experience and if you need a little guidance from a pro, check out their Steep & Deep Camp (details below).
Take a look at Winter Park Resort’s trail map and you will see that once you reach The Cirque, you have transcended tree-lined and you’ll find yourself at highest peak, 12,060ft (3,676meters) above sea level. It’s no wonder the chairlift to reach this terrain is called the Panoramic Express, the views are truly breathtaking, most especially on one of Colorado’s infamous bluebird days.
Historically, to access The Cirque you would have to hike-in but the adventure is now a little easier thanks The Cirque Sled, a 48-passenger sled pulled by a snowcat. You will need to purchase The Cirque Pass add-on at the ticket office which gives you unlimited rides on The Cirque Sled all season long.
Please note, opening of The Cirque and operation of The Cirque Sled is 100% weather dependent so ‘know before you go’ and be sure to check lift, trail and terrain status before you head out.
