Summer Adventure Weekend in Winter Park

Plan Your Weekend Adventure

From wildflower-filled meadows to rushing rivers, the mountain landscape in Winter Park is a playground for outdoors lovers. This summer, escape to Winter Park for the weekend, and choose an adventure that makes your heart sing, whether it’s whitewater rafting, zip lining, hiking or just taking in its natural splendor.

Take in the breathtaking scenery as you drive through the mountains on your way to Granby, where you’ll find picturesque Snow Mountain Ranch. Conveniently located just 20 minutes outside Winter Park, this 5,200-acre outpost of YMCA of the Rockies is the perfect home base for all your weekend adventures.

Take your pick from accommodations, whether your dream stay entails a tent beneath the stars, a cozy yurt with glamping-style amenities or an alpine cabin with sweeping mountain views.

After checking in, head over to the onsite Sombrero Stables for a true country dinner. You’ll ride horseback through the dramatic landscape of the Continental Divide and then enjoy a hearty meal of grilled steak, potatoes, ranch beans and garlic bread. Cap off the evening at the ranch’s campfire with songs and s’mores.

Start your day off right—with a paddle in your hand and the sunshine on your shoulders. Go on a guided half-day rafting trip with Arkansas Valley Adventures (AVA), departing from its Kremmling Outpost. You’ll enjoy a gentle float along the Upper Colorado River, passing through jagged canyons in the Gore Range and Mountain Ranchland as you ride the easygoing rapids.

After your morning on the water, mosey over to Main Street in Winter Park to grab a bite to eat. Sit out on the flower-filled patio at Deno’s Mountain Bistro and indulge in farm-fresh salads and Angus Beef burgers piled with specialty toppings, or pull up a seat at The Ditch on 40, famous for its chile smothered burritos and top-shelf margaritas.

Then, find your way to Devil’s Thumb Ranch in nearby Tabernash. Even if you’re not staying in one of the luxurious cabins or lodge rooms, you can still enjoy the activities. Soar through the skies and over wildflower dotted meadows with snow-capped mountains off in the distance as you glide along five different zip lines at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.

Once the sun begins to set, it’s time to seek out dinner. Stay on the ranch with a meal at the Ranch House Restaurant & Saloon, an upscale spot with an Old West vibe—leather chairs, rough-hewn log walls and rustic chandeliers—serving up New American mountain cuisine such as Rocky Mountain trout, locally raised Wagyu beef and Colorado lamb. Or, head back into Winter Park for hearty Italian specialties at Volario’s Ristorante, including gnocchi served with tender lamb osso bucco.

On your last day, make every moment count. Explore the mountains on two wheels at Bike Granby Ranch, just 15 minutes outside Winter Park, where lift-serviced downhill trails, scenic singletrack and family-friendly cross-country trails offer a gorgeous mountain bike ride for all skill levels. Meanwhile, thrill seekers will find their next great challenge at the country’s largest downhill bike park: Trestle Bike Park, boasting spectacular views alongside heart-pounding jumps, technical trails and freestyle routes. You’ll quickly discover why Winter Park is known as Mountain Bike Capital USA™.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, refuel with a specialty pizza at Elevation Pizza, where mouthwatering toppings like Red Bird chicken, homemade meatballs and Steamboat Sausage take these pies to the next level.

Fit in some final adventures at Winter Park Resort, where you can purchase a pass for two, three or four adventures and then take your pick from exciting activities, such as zooming down the alpine slide, reaching new heights on the climbing wall or leaping through the air on the giant bungee trampoline.  No matter what you choose, you’ll have plenty to smile about on your drive back home.
