Hogling, author of Colorado Mountain Club Press Hiking Safety Handbook, will cover pre-hike safety preparations and specific backcountry skills to avoid getting lost, what to do if you are lost, surviving forest fires, lightning, animal encounters, essential gear to carry, contacting Search and Rescue, etc. Attendees will learn backcountry safety skills which they can share with hiking partners and family members.
