The Continental Divide Trail

Established by Congress in 1978, the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDT) spans 3,100 miles between Mexico and Canada. The trail spans five states and connects a diverse array of communities along the Rocky Mountains. Learn More.

Gateway Communities

As the Continental Divide Trail Coalition defines them, "CDT Gateway Communities are welcoming destinations along the Continental Divide Trail for people from around the world looking to experience the CDT. For long weekends with the family, a place to start a new hiking adventure, or a can’t-miss stop on a road trip through the Rocky Mountain West, CDT Gateway Communities are the first stop!" Check out all the towns and counties that have been designated as Gateway Communities along the CDT.

The CDT & Winter Park

Winter Park & Fraser have been designated as an official Continental Divide Trail Gateway Community. The 3,100 mile trail traverses along the ridgeline looking over Winter Park and the Fraser Valley. Head into town for a delicious and filling meal paired with some local brews. Choose a place where you can sit out side and enjoy the scenery. Many of our resort and downtown restaurants boast patios with a killer view.

Stop by the Information Center in downtown Winter Park for hard-copy maps and additional information or details on road closures and trail work. Please follow Leave No Trace principles and keep Grand County clean and green!
