There are several car rental agencies at the Denver International Airport. Four wheel drive is generally not necessary, but can be nice. Most rental cars will have ski racks in the winter.

Winter Park is located 90 miles west of Denver International Airport. From the airport, take Pena Blvd to I-70 West. From I-70, take exit 232 (Highway 40) over Berthoud Pass. The California Zephyr route stretches from Chicago, IL all the way to Sacramento, CA.
