Hiking in Winter Park

High-Altitude Awareness

And this bears repeating... BE PREPARED for Colorado's ever-changing weather conditions. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer; bring a windbreaker or sweatshirt, even on warm days. At high-altitude, dehydration sets in rapidly. Always carry plenty of water and do not drink from alpine river, lakes or streams. And always tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return. And on windy days, be aware of falling trees, which have become weakened by the pine bark beetle infestation.
